Health Professions Simulation Lab at Schoolcraft College

• The Health Professions Simulation Lab (HPSL) provides healthcare professionals with firsthand simulation training experiences that bridge the gap between traditional classroom learning and performing actual procedures on patients.

• It provides an interactive educational opportunity that allows participants to make timely medical decisions while also preparing them for the unexpected.

• The HPSL has eight high-fidelity patient simulators which supply a variety of clinical situations tailored to advance skill training and enhance critical thinking. These simulators include: 3 adult medical-surgical simulators, 2 OB simulators, a full term newborn, a preemie newborn, and a pediatric five-year-old manikin.

• The patient simulators can produce spontaneous breathing, heart and lung sounds, coughing, moaning and other voice sounds.

• Scenario sets endorsed by the National League for Nursing (NLN) and American Heart Association (AHA) offer simulated acute emergency situations, medical-surgical conditions, trauma cases, maternal complications and pediatric conditions.

• The Laparoscopic Surgical trainer provides individualized instruction on laparoscopic procedures.

• State of the art recording equipment captures and records audio and video of simulations and other activities. Simulation actions can be recorded, replayed and logged to give learners the opportunity to evaluate each learning experience.

• The Health Professions Simulation Lab has advanced training equipment, including: Neonatal and Infant Intubation Trainers, Pediatric Intubation Trainer, Difficulty Airway Trainer, Arterial Arm Stick Kit, and Central Line Access Trainer.

We welcome you to tour our facility and explore the use of human patient simulation to meet your specific learning needs. Please call Marie Siegel, MSN, RN, HPSL Coordinator, at 734-462-4593 to arrange a tour of the Health Professions Simulation Lab at Schoolcraft College.
