Since 1966, Schoolcraft’s metallurgy and materials science department has been providing students with knowledge of metals and other materials used in construction and manufacturing processes. The program also offers students the opportunity to learn on an array of destructive and nondestructive testing equipment, microscopes, and our stateof- the-art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) used for compositional and image analysis of materials.
Program options include:
- The metallurgy: applied physical certificate provides those currently employed in the field with an opportunity to reinforce skills and knowledge to advance in the laboratory and related fields.
- Earning the materials science post-associate certificate helps working professionals with industrial experience and training to expand their knowledge of current technologies applied to laboratory practice and other materials related careers.
- The associate of applied science in metallurgy and materials (the only two-year program of its kind in Michigan) gives students knowledge in research, development, manufacturing and materials control in order to prepare them for positions ranging from a technician to a plant manager.
