Introduction to Firearm Handling

Course Description

Learn the basics including: safety precautions, types of firearms, considerations for purchasing a firearm, legal considerations of owning firearms, handling and storing a firearm, fundamentals of shooting and shooting positions. Two hours of classroom instruction will be followed by one hour of range shooting. The student must have a reliable, unloaded handgun (personal or rented from Schoolcraft College at additional cost) of a caliber of .22 auto or above, but not larger than a .45 caliber. All weapons will be inspected in the classroom. Bring or purchase from Schoolcraft College 50 rounds of ammunition. Bring ear and shatter resistant eye protection or rent from Schoolcraft College at an additional cost. Targets are included in the cost of the class. All students must sign a waiver. Appropriate attire is required: long sleeve shirt, full-length pants, baseball-style cap, closed-toe shoes. Students must be 18 years of age or older. All lead instructors are MCOLES certified.
