The SC Elite program will provide health, fitness and nutritional growth to youth and adults in the surrounding area.
Schoolcraft College is proud to announce a sponsorship with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System with the opening of the St. Joe’s Sports Dome, located on the Schoolcraft College campus. The opening of the St. Joe’s Sports Dome also launches Schoolcraft College’s SC Elite Program, a collaboration with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, MercyElite Sports Performance, the Legacy Center, the Wolves and Hawks Soccer Club, and the Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts Department.
SC Elite is dedicated to the growth of youth and adult sports on the I-275 corridor of metropolitan Detroit. SC Elite combines performance nutrition (from the Schoolcraft College Culinary Art Department featuring Chef Shawn Loving) with performance training from MercyElite (individuals) and the Legacy Group (teams), and health care excellence provided by Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.
As health sponsor for Schoolcraft College's SC Elite program, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System will have a number of initiatives in place. The health system's MercyElite Sports Performance program will continue to provide athletic training and sports performance services to the Michigan Wolves & Hawks youth soccer teams within the St. Joe's Sports Dome. MercyElite also will now have permanent space inside the dome to provide sports performance training to other local teams, including Strength and Conditioning and Speed and Agility Training.
In addition, Saint Joseph Mercy Health System will open a 6,000-squarefoot Urgent Care and Student Health Center on the Schoolcraft College Campus this summer on the first floor of the Jeffress Center at the corner of 7 Mile and Haggerty Road. Offering walk-in medical care, Urgent Care fills the need for non-emergency minor illness and injury such as sprains, wounds requiring stitches, rashes and illnesses such as cold and flu. As Schoolcraft's first-ever campus Student Health Center, the site also will provide staff and students with employee health and other student health services, such as physicals.
MercyElite will be growing their services on campus through an expansion of the school recreation center to enable MercyElite to provide further sports performance and training programs and on–site sports medicine physician services.
"Serving as Schoolcraft's official health sponsor is an exciting next step in our longstanding relationship," said Dave Spivey, chief integration officer for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and president and CEO of St. Mary Mercy Livonia hospital. "We are excited to not only help the college care for their local students and staff, but to bring wellness efforts out into the community to help people lead healthier lives and make an impact on the health of the local community.”
Schoolcraft College will support the SC Elite program with facilities, excellent academic programming and nutrition education tailored to the elite developing athlete. SC Elite members will train in the St. Joe’s Sports Dome and the Schoolcraft College Fitness Center and be exposed to Schoolcraft College’s academic programs to attain college credits. The Schoolcraft College Culinary Arts Department will provide healthy menu options in the Ocelot Café, at the St. Joe’s Sports Dome, and healthy living recipes to maximize athletic performance.
The Legacy Center will provide team oriented athletic development coaching and programming, including camps, clubs and leagues for athletic excellence in volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, football, lacrosse and basketball. The Legacy Team will bring their programming concepts from their home site located Brighton, MI to the Schoolcraft College campus to service families along the I-275 corridor.
