Public Safety is a vital part of society and the need for police officers, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians/paramedics, and homeland security personnel continues to grow.
Schoolcraft College offers four areas of study and various certificate and degree options to prepare you for a variety of careers in this field.
Our Public Safety programs focus on:
- Top-notch faculty with extensive professional experience. Our faculty includes former fire firefighters and fire chiefs, police officers, detectives, and paramedics
- Hands-on training in state-of-the-art Public Safety training facilities to give you “real-world experience.”
- The Public Safety Training Complex in Livonia houses the Police and Fire Academies including an indoor firearms training simulator, firing range, fire tower, 10-acre driving pad, trench and small-space simulators.
- The Emergency Medical Technology program in Garden City features a full-scale rescue vehicle and state-of-the-art Manikin simulators.
Career and Salary Outlook
Job openings in the Public Safety sector for police officers and emergency medical technicians are expected to increase nearly 5% through 2024; jobs for fire fighters and emergency medical technicians/paramedics are expected to grow by 24%.
Many of the area’s Public Safety personnel are graduates of our programs. In fact, nearly every community in southeast Michigan has at least one Schoolcraft College grad serving in their ranks and many of our alumni are high-ranking officers and hold leadership roles in their communities.
