Schoolcraft College’s Pageturners Book Club will host both a book and a panel discussion on a moving memoir, When Breath Becomes Air, by Paul Kalanithi, a young neurosurgeon faced with terminal cancer who attempts to answer the question, “What makes a life worth living?” The book follow’s Kalanithi’s path from a naïve medical student “possessed,” as he wrote, by the question of what makes a virtuous and meaningful life throughout his career as a neurosurgeon and ultimately his experiences as a cancer patient and new father confronting his own mortality.
A student-led discussion of the book will be held Tuesday, March 28 at 1:30 p.m. in Bradner Library, Room L 105, and a panel discussion will be hosted by an English 102 class on Wednesday, March 29 at 11:45 a.m. in the McDowell Center, room MC 100, both of which are located on the college’s main campus in Livonia. The book is available at a discount at the Schoolcraft College Bookstore.
