Schoolcraft board acts to fill vacancy

Published: 6/11/2010

The Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees invites individuals interested in filling a vacancy on the board to apply for the position before the 3 p.m., July 2 deadline.

Applications are available from the Office of the President, Room 190, Administration Center, at Schoolcraft College’s Livonia campus between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The board intends to interview selected applicants and make an appointment in July.

The seven-member board serves as the college’s policy-making body. To be considered a candidate for the position, an applicant must be a registered voter and a resident of the Schoolcraft district, which includes the Clarenceville, Garden City, Livonia, Northville, and Plymouth-Canton school districts and part of the Novi school district.

Board seats have six-year terms; the term for the seat in question runs through December 31, 2010. In order to be considered, applicants must be willing to complete this term and to run for the new six-year term on the November 2, 2010 general election ballot. The new term will begin January 1, 2011 and run through 2016.

In order to appear on the November 2 ballot, the appointee and others interested in running for election to the board must file nominating petitions by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 with the Livonia City Clerk’s office.

The vacancy is the result of Dr. Philip Cascade’s decision to step down due to work obligations. He practices as a thoracic radiologist at the University of Michigan Medical Center, and is a professor of radiology and internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. His resignation is effective July 1, 2010.

Dr. Cascade was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2004 and was elected to a six-year term in 2005.
