Basic Scuba Diving

Course Description

Dive into scuba adventures under the direct supervision of a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) instructor. Gain the skills and knowledge required to be safe and ready for a full Open Water Scuba Certification with any PADI dive center in the world. The class consists of classroom lecture and of hands-on activity in the pool/on deck. Students must show a mastery of the content in order to successfully complete the program and will then receive appropriate paperwork to pursue completion of their Open Water Diver Certification if desired. This class has a no refund policy. Prerequisites: must be at least 18 years of age to attend. Student must be comfortable in the water, be able to tread water / safety float for 10 minutes and swim 300 yards (any stroke, not timed). Requirements: Call 734-780-1065 to schedule a scuba gear fitting appointment, at least two weeks prior to the class. Pick up a course kit, which includes a PADI Open Water Diver Manual, dive planning materials, personal mouthpiece, logbook and other supplementary handouts. The course kit is available at Huron Scuba, 4816 Jackson Rd., Ann Arbor 48103 - course kit and all required materials are included in the course fee. You must get this early because you need to have completed specified homework before this course begins! During the fitting students will be required to fill out a medical statement and sign a waiver and may need physician approval before starting class. In some cases, specific medical concerns may prevent a student from participating. Note: bring a swimsuit, towel and bagged lunch and snacks for both full days. You will not be able to leave the campus for lunch.
